Kính thưa các Bác, Cô, Chú, Anh, Chị, và các bạn,
Khi
nhận đuợc tin toà đô chính Ottawa sẽ treo cờ của CSVN ngày 2 tháng 9,
tổ chức Thanh Niên Canada Tranh Đấu Cho Nhân Quyền tại Việt Nam
(Canadian Youth for Human Rights in Vietnam, CYHRV) đã gửi thư đến ông
Đô Truởng (xin xem đính kèm) để phản đối hành động này.
Thêm
vào đó, Anh Lê-Thế Quốc-Việt, đồng sáng lập viên của CYHRV cũng lập bản
thỉnh nguyện thư trực tuyến để thu thập chữ ký của đồng bào tại Ottawa
và khắp nơi.
Trong
vòng 1 ngày thỉnh nguyện thư này đã nhận đuợc hơn 1,300 chữ ký. Tuy
nhiên, chúng ta cần rất nhiều hơn thế để chứng tỏ cho ông Đô Truởng và
Hội Đồng Thành Phố Ottawa nhận thấy rõ ràng sự bất bình của nguời Việt
đối với việc treo cờ CSVN, một chế độ độc tài, bất nhân.
Song
song với các thư phản đối của các hội đoàn nguời Việt, một bản thỉnh
nguyện thư với một số luơng chữ ký đông đảo chắc chắn sẽ có tác động
mạnh mẽ đối với các nhà dân cử của thành phố Ottawa. Thật vậy, nguời
Việt tại Ottawa và khắp nơi cần tỏ thái độ một cách mạnh mẽ không những
để làm áp lực thay đổi quyết định sai lầm của Hội đồng thành phố Ottawa
mà còn để gây tiếng vang hầu ngăn chận sự việc có thể xảy ra tại các
thành phố khác.
Kính xin quí vị và các bạn tiếp tục chuyển thỉnh nguyện thư này và vận động thân nhận bạn bè tham gia ký đông đảo.

Dear Sir:
It
has come to our attention that the City Hall of Ottawa plans to fly the
flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 2014.
We,
as Canadians of all origins who value human rights for all peoples in
the world, strongly urge the City Hall of Ottawa to reconsider flying
the flag of a regime that brutally violates its citizens’ fundamental
human rights on a daily basis and deprives them of the freedom to live
as human beings.
Flying
the flag of the Communist Party of Vietnam at the City Hall of Ottawa
would be akin to flying the Nazi flag, had the Nazis won the war, in the
capital city of a country that values and defends the fundamental human
rights of all peoples.
The
Vietnamese-Canadian community, among which includes millions of
Vietnamese who fled to Canada to reach the shores of freedom, has never
recognized the flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; indeed, the
Government of Canada officially recognizes the Freedom Flag of Vietnam
(yellow with three red stripes) as the flag that represents the
Vietnamese community in Canada.
Vietnamese community events in Canada, including those in Ottawa that you have attended, hoist the Freedom Flag of Vietnam.
We
echo the call of Canadians of Vietnamese origin across the country and
urge the City of Ottawa to reconsider flying the flag of a totalitarian
regime whose violations of human rights are denounced by governments,
NGOs, and human rights defenders the world over.
