Commemoration the sixth anniversary of the dedication of the Victims of Communism Memorial

Dear Friend,

On Wednesday morning, June 12, 2013, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation will commemorate the sixth anniversary of the dedication of the Victims of Communism Memorial to the more than one hundred million victims of communism.

Event activities will commence at 10:00 AM at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave., NW, New Jersey Ave., NW, and G Street, NW (two blocks from Union Station and within view of the U.S. Capitol). There will follow a panel discussion at the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave. NE, starting at 12 noon.

Yang Jianli, Ph. D., Founder and President of Initiatives for China, will be awarded the 2013 Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom at the commemoration. The medal is awarded to those who have distinguished themselves in opposing communism and tyranny and advancing freedom and democracy. Dr. Yang survived the 1989 massacre at Tienanmen Square and was a prisoner of conscience in China from 2002-2007. The mission of Initiatives for China is "a peaceful transition to democratic governance in China."

Featured speakers at the commemoration will include Mrs. Annette Lantos, widow of the late Rep. Tom Lantos of California.

To attend the ceremony or lay a wreath or flowers, please RSVP by Monday, June 3, 2013 by calling Nathaniel Green at 202-536-2373 or e-mailing him at vocmemorial@aol.com.

Please distribute this invitation to members of your community or to other individuals.

We look forward to your participation. With deepest appreciation for your consideration, I remain,

Lee Edwards, Ph.D.
Chairman
