Lost contact: Fugitive journalist Pham Doan Trang

VNCH- Ngọc Trương (Danlambao) - As per Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Garden Grove, California based SBTN TV station (Vietnamese language), contacts to independent and fugitive journalist Pham Doan Trang were lost on March 8, 2018 bitterly, UN International Women’s Day.

Facebook of Nguyễn Anh Tuấn said that Green Trees social activist named Cuong who rented the loft at 22 alley, Ton that Tung, Hanoi for the journalist lost contact with Doan Trang. 

Friends tried to make contact but found out there were plain-clothes policemen hanging around in front of her hideout. Other attempts came back empty-handed.

Pham Doan Trang, journalist, activist for human rights, freedom and democracy in Vietnam, author of “Chính trị bình dân” (Popular politics) which analyzed the connection of politics and social daily life and such. This particular book was banned in Vietnam, Doan Trang has just been awarded Homo Homini prize from Czech Republic for her activity to promote a non-violent movement to fight for human rights on March 5, 2018. 

Due to her personal security and potential being expelled, the prize was received by her representative instead.


She was attacked and beaten up by plain-clothes police, ended up with permanent damaged legs. Promised, as she wrote on her Facebook, “I will stay in Vietnam to witness the day the communist regime collapses, and never stop fighting for freedom peacefully.”

In 2018, February 20, detained by police and questioned in 23 hours of her book. Doan Trang later managed to hide out from her home before police’s arrest, she became a fugitive since.
